Welcome to the Agent Kirk, DGS series, in which what we see in the 2009 Star Trek reboot only scratches the surface of what James T. Kirk and his crew are capable of.
(Or, that verse wherein JTK started his career with Starfleet as a spy, then joined the Academy. There's a reason the Admiralty allowed him his choice of crew.)
